Kadampa Buddhist Temple in New
York
The Kadampa Temple for World Peace
October 25th (Je Tsongkhapa
Day), 2006 Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso opened the first US Kadampa
Temple.
Six years in the making, Venerable Geshe Kelsang has personally overseen
every aspect of the project, from the initial choosing of the land, creating
the design, and the actual building of the Temple. Based on the mandala
of Buddha Heruka, the Temple is a magnificent and holy object, housing
beautiful statues, paintings and other sacred adornments.
Constructed by many dedicated volunteers, as well as local builders, with funds from Kadampa practitioners worldwide, the Kadampa Temple is dedicated to world peace. It will be a source of inspiration and a place of pilgrimage, meditation and study for generations to come.
It is the second traditional Kadampa Temple built as part of the International Temples Project.
Deep spiritual meaning
The symbolic architecture of the Temple and its original art endow it
with a tranquil beauty that soothes our minds and has deep spiritual meaning.
The Temple is treasured by Kadampa practitioners as a holy object that
inspires us to attain inner and outer peace.
“Just looking at the Temple with a happy mind brings inner peace.” Geshe Kelsang Gyatso
